The World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker were the main trend setters when it comes to poker TV, showcasing their actual tournaments, filming thousands of hands of poker and using lipstick cameras to show what the players are holding. The formula worked, with a smattering of poker player bio information to keep it interesting, and the poker boom grew. Bravo TV was one of the next to jump on the wagon, offering Celebrity Poker Showdown for a bit of a twist on the standard Poker TV Tournament Format. In 2006 there will be a few new offerings to further switch things up.
Spike TV’s “King Of Vegas" will be among the leaders of the new formats. “King of Vegas” is an hour long program that will be part reality show TV and part poker tournament TV. The show will have more emphasis on player personalities and the behind the scenes action of poker events that previous shows offered. |
